Here’s a great mini-documentary about a homestead in California. It’s hard to believe how much they’ve done with 1/10th of an acre. In the video they show it’s about a quarter of a football field (less actually), so it’s about 66 feet by 132 feet for the whole property. If you now count just the actual garden it’s 66 x 66 or 3,900 square feet, that’s less than 1/10th of an acre. And they still manage to grow 350 different vegetables, herbs, fruits and berries.
They make a powerful statement at the end:
In our society growing food yourself has become the most radical of acts. It is truly the only effective protest, one that can — and will — overturn the corporate powers that be.
By the process of directly working in harmony with nature, we do the one thing most essential to change the world . . .
We Change Ourselves!
